Technical Writer
Position: Technical Writer
Reports to: Project Group Leader
Technical Writer Job Description:

To produce Technical Documents that help people understand and generally support customer use of our products and services.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Works cooperatively with clients to supply documentation support as part of the final acceptance procedure for a project.
  • Works cooperatively with fellow employees, contractors, management and suppliers to capture and document final project information
  • Adhere to IAI’s ISO9000 quality policy and procedures
  • Manages all assigned tasks in a neat and timely fashion
  • Utilize IAI Quotation, Mechanical Designs, Electrical Designs and Supplier documentation to generate clear documentation to allow our customers to understand the function, operation, and safety features. This documentation includes:
    • Operation Manual
    • Maintenance Manual
    • Mechanical, Electrical and Fluid Power drawings
    • Documentation from OEM supplied equipment.
    • Recommended Spares
  • Ability to take photos and to integrate photos and text to create illustrations for the purpose of describing operation and maintenance of equipment.


  • Maintain schedule of current projects requiring documentation in order to deliver on time.       Monitors machine build process to insure timely completion of the technical documents.
  • Communicate any concerns with project status with management, fellow staff and clients.
  • Works in conjunction with the other members of the team, such as the electrical/mechanical designer and mechanical/controls developer during all stages of machine build process to ensure proper up to date information is contained in the final technical documents.
  • Required responsibility and accountability with attention to detail and tight deadlines while multi-tasking on multiple projects.
  • Responsible for the arrangement and shipping of the final documents to our customer.
  • Occasional travel as required globally.

Workers may also bring health and safety concerns and suggestions directly to the Joint Health and Safety Representative (Members names are listed on the Health and Safety Bulletin Board).

Physical Demands:

This position requires constant sitting with occasional standing and walking. It requires occasional cervical flexion, the chin to chest movement. Maximum lifting weight can reach about 75lbs with the maximum carrying weights reaching close to 50lbs and the maximum pushing and pulling weights reaching 100-150lbs. This position requires constant forward and lateral reach. Constant handling, use of fingers and pinching are required. Working in this position requires a very strong ability to work alone and self-supervise as well as the ability to supervise others.

Education Requirements and Experience:
  • Skills are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions.
