IT Group Leader
Position: IT Group Leader
Reports to: Ownership of Innovative Automation Inc.
General Purpose of the Job:

Uses research techniques combined with various outside sources of information to design, program, develop, commission, and service computer systems and machine vision applications for custom industrial and office automation to Innovative and customer specifications.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

General Duties

  • Works cooperatively with customers, fellow employees, contractors, and management.
  • Communicates with management, fellow staff, and customers any project concerns, project status, and possible area solutions.
  • Completes all assigned tasks in a neat and timely fashion.
  • Generates or assists in generating project scope of work for projects.
  • Generates or assists in generating a written detail of the operation of the machine or computer system for the client and IAI employees.
  • Servicing or assisting in the servicing of custom automation equipment or office automation

Office Automation

  • Reviews and recommends computer components. Generates a complete Bill of Materials (BOM) for purchased parts.
  • Generates process budgets, timetables and costing for proposed applications.
  • Maintains computer networks, all computer systems and related systems both hardware and software.
  • Generates system maintenance and upgrade budgets.
  • Stays current with hardware and software system.
  • Informs ownership of present and future short comings of systems and projected solutions.

Machine Automation

  • Meets with client and sales department for system approval.
  • Studies quotation and Project Request Form to determine customer requirements.
  • Forwards B.O.M. to Purchasing. Reviews and recommends control and computer components listed on the Mechanical B.O.M
  • Reviews with the Technical Manual Writer the controls or computer system design of the machine or computer system (may be required to write the technical manual). The manual should be reviewed when completed for accuracy and completeness. If preparing the Technical Manual for a customer of Innovative, once completed the Technical Writer signs off on the Signoff Form.
  • Create the software require to control the complete machine or as part of a team maybe require to write a portion of the software and interface with other software systems.
  • Development of the machine as it pertains to the computer control systems and the assistance of other personnel from the controls department, other departments within Innovative, suppliers, and customers. When complete signs off on the Signoff Form, if applicable.
  • Commissioning or assisting in the commissioning of the custom automation equipment.
Occupational Health and Safety Act Responsibilities:

Workers have a general duty to protect their own health and safety and that of others around them. Workers must:

  • Work in compliance to the Act and Regulations
  • Use or wear any equipment, protective devices or clothing required by the employer
  • Not move or make ineffective any protective devices or clothing required by the employer
  • Report to the employer or supervisor any known hazards or missing or defective equipment or protective devices
  •  Report any known violation of the Act or regulations to the employer or supervisor

Workers should be proactive about health and safety. That means that workers must not only comply with the law, the employer’s policies and workplace procedures, but they should also make suggestions to improve health and safety. Workers may also bring health and safety concerns and suggestions directly to the Joint Health and Safety Representative (Members names are listed on the Health and Safety Bulletin Board).

Physical Demands:

This position may require frequent Sitting. Working in the Network Administration department also requires constant cervical flexion, the chin to chest movement. Maximum lifting weight can reach about 50lbs, maximum carrying weight is about 40lbs, and the maximum pushing and pulling weights can reach 100-150lbs. Constant forward reach with both arms is necessary as well as frequent grasping. Working in this position requires a very strong ability to work alone and self-supervise as well a strongly established ability to supervise others. It also requires the ability to handle attention to detail, tight deadlines, responsibility and accountability as well as the ability to multi-task.

Education Requirements and Experience:
  • Minimum Diploma in Engineering Technology or Equivalent Specialized Experience
  • Skills are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions for all levels of this position
