Technical Writer
Position: Technical Writer
Reports to: Project Group Leader
Technical Writer Job Description:

To produce Technical Documents that help people understand and generally support customer use of our products and services.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Works cooperatively with clients to supply documentation support as part of the final acceptance procedure for a project.
  • Works cooperatively with fellow employees, contractors, management and suppliers to capture and document final project information
  • Adhere to IAI’s ISO9000 quality policy and procedures
  • Manages all assigned tasks in a neat and timely fashion while striving to maintain budgeted hours
  • Utilize IAI Quotation, Project Request Form, Mechanical Designs, Electrical Designs and Supplier documentation to generate clear documentation to allow our customers to understand the function, operation, and safety features. This documentation describes the operation, change-over and maintenance of supplied equipment to allow the customer to service and maintain the equipment in proper and safe working condition.
  • Ability to create photos and to integrate photos and text to create illustrations for the purpose of describing operation and maintenance of equipment.
  • Communicate any concerns with project status with management, fellow staff and clients.
  • Works in conjunction with the other members of the team, such as the electrical designer and the mechanical assembler/developer during all stages of machine build process to insure proper up to date information is contained in the final technical documents.
  • Generates Pneumatic and / or Hydraulic Schematic drawings if required.
  • Monitors machine build process to insure timely completion of the technical documents.
  • Required responsibility and accountability with attention to detail and tight deadlines while multi-tasking on multiple projects.
  • Responsible for the arrangement and shipping of the final documents to our customer.
  • Occasional travel as required globally.

Workers should be proactive about health and safety. Physical Demands:

This position requires constant sitting with occasional standing and walking. It requires occasional cervical flexion, the chin to chest movement. Maximum lifting weight can reach about 75lbs with the maximum carrying weights reaching close to 50lbs and the maximum pushing and pulling weights reaching 100-150lbs. This position requires constant forward and lateral reach. Constant handling, use of fingers and pinching are required. Working in this position requires a very strong ability to work alone and self-supervise as well as the ability to supervise others.

Education Requirements and Experience:
  • Minimum Diploma in Engineering Technician or Equivalent Specialized Experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office: Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word.
  • Proficient in use of a Graphic software program, such as Corel Draw or Paint.
  • Proficient in use of Pneumatic and Fluid Power Schematic software, such as Festo or AutoCAD.
  • Skills are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions.
